unsure what to do. when idling it sounds ok, but when increasing rpm you can hear a knock coming from the 'centre' of the engine. anyone had this problem, dont know whether to replace engine, fix or sell? please help
i think might be ur engine mounts maybe even gearbox mount
i had this problem ended up being sagged engine mount also upper bushes
maybe your knock sensor, i think they set a fault code. when you hear the sound does the engine make a sound as if something mettalic is in the combustion chamber?
could be a bearing.
selling vp calais wheels with 97% rubber hardly used!
check the harmonic balancer for cracking etc
common problem
If the car has 300,000KM or more then it could be the balance shaft bearings. Is it noticeable when driving or just with the bonnet up?
it has done 216,400. you can hear it when ur driving and with the bonnet up. i had it checked and they said it could be a piston. gudgeon pin or something like that. but they didnt take the engine apart, just a guess with the stethoscope. would it be better to buy a 2nd hand engine to put in? or fix it or sell?
yeah could be bearings, bottom end, con rod or balance, my buick shat conrod 3-4 at 314,000, get a second hand engine from centre rd wreckers
