Just bought a VS V6 and will be using it for towing a 14 foot boat. Someone said it's a good idea to have a trans cooler on these boxes. What are the pbr ones on ebay like? does any have any suggestions for me .
Thanks.
dont know about the pbr one's
but i cooked my auto early this year driveing from canberra to grenfell in 40deg day got back same day and it was ****ed changed the fluid and filter twice now and it's playing up again
save the money and by a cooler
i am getting a new box soon btw so this is what happens to you if you get caght out
yea vp boxes recoed are bout $1800 im a mech so i have some contacts im getting one for bout $900
bout 300k there 300 back so 600km in a day with a rest after 300
but changeing the filter and fluid helps alot to but cooler is way to go it helps cooling in two ways it radiates heat out of the box and increases the oil volume
in an engine oil volume is desireable
VS commodores usually has a trans cooler.
my mates acclaim has a stock cooler.
selling vp calais wheels with 97% rubber hardly used!
VS series 2's came fitted with a cooler as std but they also had screwed fittings, I think the series 1 vs has push on fittings same as VN-VR.
Try the Holden max towing pack cooler, don't know if available still but when I bought mine years back was cheaper than PWR and Borg warner models of similar size.
I used the large one for my auto and used the small VN-VR cooler for my power steer cooler.

use a trans cooler from a vt on wards they are bigger then a vs cooler and are better
Id keep the auto serviced regularly, filter etc as well as a good cooler. It should help to make it last. Its somthing people forget about until they notice somthing wrong with it.A mate tows a work trailer around with his VS ute,its fairly heavy and hes had a good run out of the trans ,he just keeps it serviced etc.
