Ok, unfortunately, I was a bit of a tool and got cocky.. Parents have a VS commodore and I noticed the handbrake wasn't exactly performing up to tasks, so I got under the car and looked at the way it operated and thought to myself that it seemed a pretty easy fix. Noticed the two bolts (that hold the.. shackle? where the cable splits into two for left/right wheels) were a fair bit tight, so I gave the bolts a decent spraying of WD-40, let it sit for 5-10 minutes, had another go at adjusting - but obviously a bit too hard and snapped the bolt. At this stage, there's no operational handbrake on the car at all. Is this a case of new mechanism to be replaced from the lever itself, or how would one go about rectifying this?
I'll add a pic very soon, but the pic doesnt do much justice
as promised..

Same thing happened in my VN lol. Went to the wreckers and got a new handbrake assembly. To remove the old one you will need to remove the center console and slip a 13mm spanner down in between the trans tunnel and carpet and remove the two bolts, which is a pain in the ass and I cut my carpet a bit for easier access. Then just maneuver the old assembly out which can be also a bit tricky.
Btw, should always adjust the shoes before the cable.![]()
Ahh.. Thanks for that man..
I swear the REP system needs to come back.. I'll end up getting to the wreckers for the parents and get this sorted for them..
Thanks for the advice regarding the shoes as wellas I said, I got cocky, and I shoulda pulled the wheels off had a bit of a look around, but the cable seemed like a much more logical idea at the time lol. You learn from your mistakes a wise (wo)man once said.,
