I'll set the situation. Driving home last night I heard a clunk and all of a sudden I lost power everything. Pulled to the side of the road knowing it would be the belt and this was confirmed when I popped the bonnet. About 20m behind me was the pulley. NRMA came after I tried smacking it back onto the pump, he reckons I will need a new waterpump.
Can I just go to the wreckers and try to get a pulley? Any ideas on cost? Shits me, I only replaced the waterpump in Janurary and don't want to do it again![]()
If the shaft and seals are still ok, I think it would depend on whether the holes that the pulley bolts go into have been stripped.
I guess, even if they have been damaged, you may be able to retap them with a slightly larger hole??? Someone may correct me on this.
yeah, as jim carey said if the flange on water pump shaft is in tact and the threads in the 4 holes are ok just get a new pulley and bolt it on.
Think I'll just buy a new water pump, the flange came off with the pulley and as far as I know, the flange/shaft are pressed in to the pump when they are manufactured.
Warranty claim on the pump manfacturer? There may be a dispute over who installed it but if the pressed on pulley has come off its difficult to see how that can be an issue involving the installation.
Yeah was my first thought, but I don't have the invoice or the packaging..I'll ring up a few places tomorrow and get some prices, hopefully shouldn't cost more than $150 (after trade discount). Think the last waterpump only cost me like 70 or something.
