    Default VS struggling

G'day, recently picked up a nice VS Statesman, having some minor issues with it though, one that's quite annoying is when I plant it, the engine will struggle, it feels like there's lack of petrol, can anyone shed some light on this subject?

    Cheers,
    Chris

Hi Chris, it could be a lot of things causing it to struggle like that. Does it seem to misfire when you plant it or does it just bog down? Is it a V8 or a V6? A bit more information and service history (since you have had it) would be handy.

It doesn't misfire it just bogs down and then gets going just before it shifts, it's a V6 series III, I've only had it for just over a week so I haven't done anything to it, it was meant to come with service books but the guy forgot to give them to me, I should be getting them from him this week though, sorry mate should have given you some more info.

It could be in "limp mode" where a fault is detected by the ECU and then the car will only go into 3rd gear or reverse. This gives very leisurely accelleration. Check the fault codes to confirm...it's very simple and you only need a paperclip:Checking error codes VR/VS (Revised)
Also could be a blocked catalytic converter of even a fuel filter blocked....but do the detective work and check the codes!

nah i have the same problem, but no error codes and have brand new - coils, plugs, leads, no guts in the cat, new oil & filter etc etc... i plant it then around 3000-4000rpm the car hits like a flat spot (brick wall so to speak) goes absoloutly nowhere just sits there an revs without picking up speed or rpm till u change into the next gear, i have a series 2 vs acclaim converted to a manual t5 running gertrag manual pcm and loom unsure as to wtf is going on tho would love some info aswell!!!

You should start a new thread as you have a manual and Shtato (who started this thread) has an auto and they are two different kettles of fish.

    You tell em hako !!
Perhaps one of the problems is a dodgy fuel pump ? that felt like a brick wall to me, till the pressure picks up again

Problem solved, it seems some of the plugs were a bit loose, runs nicely now.

Thanks everyone for the info regardless.
