    Default Ignition Barrel Worry...

hi guys, have a problem with my VR,

I'm pretty sure my ignition barrel is stuffed to the core. I put my key in, and it turns freely without turning on accessories or anything. I cant start the car or anything
How do I go about removing the ignition barrel and replacing a new on in there?

    thanks,
    My car audio:

CD tuner: Alpine CDA-9884E with Ipod interface
    Front speakers: Alpine Type R SPR-17S 6.5 component speakers, powered by a avant-garde 23dxi 2 channel amplifier - 2x51 watt RMS
Rear speakers: pioneer coaxials connected to tuner
Subwoofer: Alpine Type R SWR-1222D 12" 2 ohm dual voice coil 500 watts RMS powered by a response precision 2x150 watts RMS 2 channel amp bridged to 500 watts RMS @ 4 ohms

i cant see why it would be a switch where the ignition just freely moves, it doesn't even click or anything.

you'll see a pin sized hole somewhere on the barrel, if you turn the key to on and put a paper clip into the little hole, you should be able to pull the whole barrel out using the key.

i just removed the black switch at the back and had a look at the back of it. There was a little broken metal rod sticking out. What does that mean?

Hi all, have just bought a VR Executive which has been sitting in a back yard for the past six months. Changed the battery and it started staight away, however since then the ignition is quite irratic, sometimes it turns over and starts straight away but on other occasions you turn on the key and nothing happens, stero, lights ,horn and every thing else works ,but when you go to start it nothing happens, regards Callum.

Sounds like the battery in the key is flat - this prevents the immobiliser from turning off. Another check is to put the gear lever in N jus in case the inhibiter switch is worn. 3rd trick is to press the unlock button whilst the key is in the ignition.
