    Default LPG Conversion

Hey guys, new to this thread. I want to convert my VS wagon to gas. What's the max price you would pay for the conversion? Just looking for a basic idea of what price I should be charged.

    Thanks.

It's all relative to where you live, how much the mechanic decides they want to charge, and the kind of system you go for.

Instead of getting 20 different answers here, ring around a couple of places and get some prices, then bring the quotes here, and people will tell you what they think.

The last time I priced a factory approved kit, for a VS, IRS sedan it was $1864.50. Labour to fit it will be on top of that. A factory kit for a wagon, if still available, will be significantly more as the petrol fuel tank is also replaced (with a smaller one to make room for the LPG tank under the floor).

If ringing around asking for quotes, get an itemised list of exactly what would be fitted. The factory kits include things like stiffer rear springs to support the extra weight of the LPG tank and a replacement MemCal (chip in the ECU/PCM) with one including an LPG ignition map, petrol start assist and anti-theft interface. Without the MemCal, some kits will effectively bypass the vehicle anti-theft immobiliser. Very early VS require that the PCM be replaced to allow the fitment of the MemCal. There are various levels of sophistication in the LPG fuel controllers too, even within the same brand = get the model number on the itemised list and do some research.

As general advice, there are two parts to an LPG conversion: the quality of the engineering in the system - a factory approved system will be just about perfect in that regard, some of the other kits available may be - and the quality of the installation.

Some will no doubt disagree, especially if they have spent money on buying one, but the valve lube systems aren't worth the extra cost evn if they did reduce valve wear (it's debatable that they do).

Ok are you looking for a straight LPG conversion or just a dual fuel conversion?

The standard price for a Commodore is around $2200-$2700 installed fitted and tested. Make sure you get it done at a reputable shop which has been approved by the governing LPG board or whatever it is called, anyway, that part is important.

The government is still doing rebates for gas conversion, however in this category it has gone down from $2000 to $1750, but anyway, still a good deal only end up paying around $400 - $1000 out of your pocket. Shop around, search the million threads that have been started on this topic, and ring up some of the places that do these conversions.

If your in Victoria, AG AutoGas in Lilydale are very very good, give good prices and service as well.

It will cost you anywhere from $2200 onwards depending on what system and gas tank they use (me i prefer to use a australian made APA donut tank and genuine impco, but that just me) And the rebate is $1750 but will drop down to $1500 as of 1st of july. Yes you have to change spark plus more often than a car thats on petrol (but look at the saving and spark plugs are like $4 each) And the only time you need to get your injectors redone, is when you always run your car on LPG cuz it get block up. I recommend running it on LPG 70% to petrol 30% that way

i would like to know who told you this information, ive got a vs wagon and the tank can either go - in the spare wheel arch and the wheel is mounted in the back
    - get tank put either between wheel arches or on one side (i had this option done)

    the fuel tank isnt touched.
i paid 2600 for mine (less 2000 rebate) = $600, and gas is fine for it (you just have to run petrol thru the engine every now and then so everything stays lubed), i got new valves put in when it got done as well. its cheap and gives you more range when coupled with the petrol
