how much is it to get someone to replace the 2 front engine mounts on a vs
$1000000000.95
ring a mechanic..
Float like an elephant sting like a tree clubsport hits what doug does'nt see
just been quoted $440 to do the job i think it is a ripoff
I don't think that's to over the top, the new mounts themselves aren't cheap and its not a two minute job to change them
true, im paying a mechanic $500 to change over an engine for me. engine mounts are basically the same job. engine out, mounts, engine in.
you guys serious? new mounts for mine cost me $50. if you know someone with an engine crane you can do it yourself. you dont need to remove the engine, just lift it up. i had to take mine out the other week to check them, so its not that hard. for a mechanic, 2-3 hours max? so theyre charging a fair bit for labour there

Im in Adelaide and I got my engine mounts done about 6 months ago , I supplied the mounts which I purchased from sprint auto for $110 and Midas fitted them for $150 so all up it set me back a total of $260
I just got two engine mounts fitted to my VS for RWC ,cost me $240 fitted.I usually fit stuff like this myself but went to Kmart for tyres, got them to do the free safety check, and all they found was collapsed engine mounts,soI thought stuff it,they got it up on a hoist they may as well do the job while its there, cost $60 for each mount plus fitting,No way would I pay any more than $250-$300,motor does not have to come out,and takes about one and a half hours, but I had tires fitted in this time as well.
lol u dont even need an engine crane as u risk busting the trans mount. get a large plant of wood wider than the sump. jack the sump a tiny bit. have both set of bolts done from under neath. proceed to un bolt the drivers side one from the block.
remove the whole thing then get a 3/8 ring spanner and remove the aircond unit. once its removed jack a lil bit higher on the sumpand unbolt the aircond bracket from the passenger side. then reversal. dont worry the sump will be fine
you dont have to touch the a/c. get a short spanner and a lever bar and you can crack the bastard bolt
im going to try that next time, my mate got the mounts done on a VS without removing the AC but wouldnt show me how, however he did lend me his super slender spanner so I could remove my AC pump (push it to the side)
its a piss easy job, both sides are piss easy on a VS V6
I have done it once, only part I got stuck on was one side would drop in and the other wouldn't line up, A jimmy bar quickly fixed that.
Mine cost me $200 6 or so weeks ago...
If you be really careful you can change them without a crane then it's just a 50 dollar job (for the mounts)
block of wood and a jack. its how we do them at work if its done on the ground, if not, big pole, rubber block and lower the hoist down onto it
the cheapest i can find on the gold coast for mounts is $72 each
I got quoted $400 bux at my mechanics. Think it sounds ****ing ridiculous, so going to look else where and maybe do it myself. Only thing is I'm not that confident in doing it so I don't know.
cost me $240 all up for mine including the new mount
I know from memory that the mounts from Repco costs 90 bucks each or something like that?
Did both of my mounts today at home on stands
you do NOT have to remove the ac pump
undo lower engine mount bolts
jack up from the sump (with a block of wood) until the engine cover hits the firewall
short 15mm spanner gets to most of the bolts and a pry bar on the short spanner cracks the nuts ,
leave the nuts on the drivers side mount loose so that you can position the mounts back in to the lower holes then tighten everything back up
its not a hard job ,just a bit frustrating not really being able to see what you are doing
time taken to do around 2.5 hours
cost $120 for engine mounts
in all honesty a mechanical workshop should charge no more than 2 hours labour as it is not a difficult job
maybe a 15mm stubby ratchet spanner would make the job easier.
allways a good excuse to buy a set.
i did both of mine in 10mins ;D
i bought my mounts from supercheap auto for $57 each that was the cheapest i could find and $170 to get them fitted
just changed my harmonic balancer on my VR because it was shot, but now the car is vibrating. could the harmonic balancer being wrecked damage the engine mounts during the process?. sorry if this is a dumb question.
