hi, i just changed my gearbox in my vr, auto, v6, now i got the gearbox out of another old vr i had laying around, bolted up fine you bute nothin wrong.
apart from 2 things,
1. the rear rubber mount for the box that is in are worn out and i cant undo the 2 bolts that hold the metal plating that the rubbers are connected to ?? any ideas? ive tried torx sets and everything, just does not work.
2. how do i know if it has a shift kit? because with my old box the gear changes use to be sloppy right, and all other vn-vr's ive driven are a little sloppy, now with this one, it sort of bangs in, not hard or anything, and just keeps going, you dont have to take your foot off of the acelarator between changes? and ive noticed alot more power?
now with the vr's, did they come out with a 4spd auto with overdrive? becauase im dead sure this has overdrive (and im not talking about the power switch, that just holds your gears longer and kickbacks gears earlier), about 100 km/h and it drops from 2,450 rpm to 1,850 rpm roughly, and this is not clicking into fourth either
and prior to this box it was doing 2,100 rpm at 100km/h, so any help please, i did not change the diff no or anything apart from the box, didnt evan reset the comp nothing.

What do you mean its not clicking into 4th, overdrive is usually the term given to fourth gear. If the revs are dropping, thats the lock up converter and they lock up in 4th.
It also sounds like it may have a kit through it but you wont notice any power gains, maybe the last box was so stuffed that it was slipping all the time. Also if you had to take your foot off the go pedal for it to change, that also is the sign of a box not operating properly.
My foamy tune means I have to take my foot off a little bit if im flooring it for it to change from 3 to 4, just because of the way he programmed the shift points :P
Otherwise granny driving it shifts normally. albeit holding revs a tiny bit longer than normal.
Ok, i haven't heard of that before, it sort of defeats the purpose of holding you foot down if you have to take it off to get the gears to change.
Your shifts feeling firmer could just be a case of a well-treated trans, or it could be something more technical. There's the possiblity that someone has increased the line pressure, there's a screw somewhere that does it... EPC or something? This will cause it to shift with more pressure between gears, but it also causes it to bang into drive and reverse from neutral or park. The same banging can be caused by a worn trans mount I think. Might be a clue as to why yours shifts harder than others.
As stated, 4th gear is an overdrive gear if I'm not mistaken.
Not much help on your varying cruising RPM though, sorry.
Being a VR2 I would imagine this has a 4L60E box, you did put a 4L60E and not just a 4L60 in it's place, right?
when I mean take it off, I only mean a little bit. You just have to get the TPS to register a drop in throttle which is only about a centimeter of accelerator. Its just if i hold it flat to the floor, it wont change from 3rd to 4th without hitting the limiter first, so I let off a little bit just before it does and it snaps into 4th.
1.I olny use 8mm allen key on it, well sometimes its really pain to take out this allen bolt, just hit with hammer or if youve got big punch to shock it, done this many times and it works.
2. To check if it got shift kit, drop the pan off then take out 1,2 accumalator this accumulator got a piston and 2 spring inside, if the spring are missing and something in there for sure it got shift kit and if not you got a problem with pressure control either get a new one or adjust it . To adjust the pressure control you need 15 mm torx bit, turn clockwise to decrease the pressure ,counter clock wise increase pressure, but be aware its trial and error in doing this.

What's the real advantage with these Foamy tunes? Someone like to explain it to me?
got the rear mount off, had a talk to someone and he said its a shift kit for sure.
now he is not too sure about the overdrive, and quote from before

no 4th is not a overdrive, overdrive is not a seperate gear, and overdrive on drops your revs 1000 rpm, overdrive is usually toggled by a switch also, not as a seperate gear on the shift.
i am certain it is overdrive after 4th, because it pops into 4th at about 100km/h and then accelerate to 110km/h and drops a further lot of revs, after being into fourth?
i am not sure
any one know much about roller rockers here? thinking of getting some, like how hard are they to put in etc, power increase? more revs? thanks again

4th is overdrive the further drop in revs is just the torque convertor locking solid
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong
