At a guess i would say that the Steering lock will be fine.
When you remove your key from the lock, the light grey barrel that turns should pop out 2-3mm which engages the steering lock.
When re-inserting your key, and turning it then pushes back in dis-engaging.
What the problem will be is the little grey barrel that the key goes in will be gummed up with grime over time and not popping out.
My statesman does it all the time. Occasionally it will pop out, other times no go. Quick little flick with the key and it usually pops out fine.
Remember, while your key is in the barrel it wont pop out.
Its only when the last 10mm of the key is removed it lets it lock.
If you look down the key hole you will see a small metal tab that makes it all work.
Just try a few lubricants and see which works best.
Just dont drown the lock with WD40. Some cases too much is as bad as not enough.
Hope this helps.
