Okay I have looked up many threads and I have done what I can however I need some more help.
For about a month my VS Ecotec has been randomly stalling - usually in the worst places imaginable. It is driving me nuts. To make matters worse, no codes are being logged.
So far I have:
changed the fuel pump
changed the crank angle sensor
cleaned the throttle body
cleaned the idle air control valve
changed the the idle air control valve (with a 2nd hand unit)
changed the throttle position sensor (with a 2nd hand unit)
cleaned the MAF
cleaned the air filter
changed the oil and filter
spark plugs and leads have done about 17,000km (plugs have been cleaned in that time)
changed the coils packs (with 2nd hand units)
changed the DFI module (with a second hand unit)
changed the oxygen sensors
poured a bottle of injector cleaner into the fuel tank
I am now running out of ideas as to what to do next. I thought I had solved it after replacing the CAS. For two weeks nothing happened - until today. I am wondering whether changing the ECU would do anything?
It may or may not be related but the engine seems to be running rough at idle as well. While waiting at the lights the engine will usually "shudder" once. It's quite disconcerting. Under load though it seems to be fine. All this seems to have happened after I had a 2.5" cat back exhaust installed. Might that have caused something to go awry?
Any ideas?
hi mate i just had the exact same problem in my vs 5 mins ago i was sitting on 100kmph and then dropped down to 60kmph when i came to town then the engine cut out. I rolled to the side of the road and tried to start it again but nothing. waited 2 mins and bang she kicked over
yeh i used to have the same peroblem.
turned out my brake booster was leaking and i had an engine vaccum leak.
to much air intake.
and my engine wasnt handling under load.
so got spark plugs replaced etc etc..
hope this has helped
Vroooom!
Random stalling after all the things youve changed - I'd be inclinded to test a second ECU.
I've done all the things you have stated above on my VN - and it was the ECU after 6 months of frustrating stalling.
White 05 V6 VZ Executive - Thrashed Ex Telstra car
and 3 Dangerous non ABS VN's
yep had same problem replaced ecu never had problem again i think all vs's ecu are the same but i ended up getting same year one from a calias same
iv changed the fuel pump, fuel filter, tps sensor, o2 sensor, air idle speed regulator, air flow meter, poured injector cleaner into the tank and always put bp ultimate into the tank and now everytime i put it into reverse or drive or stop at lights the car just stalls or the revs drop down to just above 0 and feels like its about to stall i dont know what else to try its driving me nuts iv spent so much money and getting no were
yea you need a VS ecu, they're not compatible with others. vt MAY be but i doubt it.
nah wudnt be the battery or altinator coz their fairly new all electronics run fine just when i put the car into gear is when it struggles.. i was thinking it was the ecu aswel but cant understand how it would just cave like that
Maybe reset your base idle.
how do i do that..iv tryed disconnecting the whole battery etc to reset the ecu but nothing im thinking just get a new ecu its prob my best bet..iv got a series 1 vs ecu but mines series 2 will it make a difference?
I've scanned the page on resetting the base idle for the VS. It may or may not help but anything is worth trying. Good Luck.
ill give it a go..thanks
