Get a new Crank Angle Sensor common problem. Have a good read of the second link I didn`t get a code at all.

Did you end up replacing the A/C idler mounting yourself? There is an earth for the CAS sensor that has to be reattached to one of the studs for the A/C idler mounting. It also may be that the sensor was on its way out anyway. Good luck with it.

yep replaced that and its all hooked up right, for about a week now every now and then when i go to start it nothing happens. The dash lights come on but nothing else its just dead but if i hold the ignition on for about 5 seconds it starts to kick over

That problem can be related to the terminals around the ignition not making good contact with the key. There are some posts about it.

You can try fixing it, or you can diagnose this by: Every time you remember, press the unlock door button on the remote immediately before you put the key in the ignition and start the car. If the car does not start only when you forget to press the button, then the terminals are making poor contact with the key

If it were related to the CAS, I think the engine would crank fine - just wouldn't start.

Yep, extremely common problem with the Ecotec V6, 99% chance it will be the crank angle sensor failing. For the genuine part its about $90 or so, plus fitting.

Each to their own... I got mine done at Holden, mainly because at the time I didn't know what was causing the issue.

With getting it done at Holden, you get 12 months warranty on both the part and the labour too, so if you have any problems again, you can take it straight back without any issues.

I've installed one of the Ebay ones and no problems so far. I enquired at Holden and they wanted about $120 (from memory) for the sensor itself and said that unless it is installed by a mechanic they would not replace it if it failed in the 12 month warranty period.
It's easy to see why SuperCheap/Repco/Ebay etc do a roaring trade.
