Hi everyone I am new to this site, and was wondering if anyone can help me please. I have a 97 Vs Ute and I need to change the injectors so I have been told, as I have a strong fuel smell coming from the engine bay and everyone has told me it is my injectors.
Being a woman, and knowing nothing about cars I have just taken their word for it. What I am after is a diagram on how to replace the injectors, and no I am not going to try and do it myself![]()
If anyone has a link with a diagram on how to replace the injectors that would be great.
Thanks for your time.

first we need to establish what engine is in your ute as depending on the engine the procedure is slightly different.
for a V8 engine it's just a matter of removing some engine covers, unbolting the fuel rails and lifting the fuel rails so the injectors come out of the manifold bosses. then you can remove the injectors from the fuel rails...
for a V6 engine you need to split the top half of the manifold from the lower because the fuel rail is bolted to the bottom of the intake plenum (top half of the intake manifold) then you can remove the fuel injectors from the rails. as you can tell it's a little more difficult for a V6 engine but nothing that can't be done with a few basic hand tools and a few hr's of your time
nothing wrong with doing it yourself just as long as you make sure you don't pinch a O-ring putting the injectors back it as that will ensure a fuel leak. i'd recommend cleaning the intake manifold with some engine degreaser, especially around the injector bosses in the intake manifold before attempting to remove the injectors and using some petroleum jelly on the O-rings when re-fitting to ensure they go back easily and reducing the risk of pinching/damaging a O-ring

In addition to immortality's excellent advice above, I'd like to suggest that if the fuel smell is coming from the injectors (or in that area) that it will not be the actual injectors leaking but the "O" rings mentioned above. The injectors themselves will cost hundreds of dollars to replace but the "O" rings cost probably under ten dollars - they are available separate to the injectors from any Holden agent.
Also have a look down the bottom of this web page for "Similar Threads"...they will help.
Cheapest way to get new/reco'd injectors is to buy them off eBay, i got a set o six for $120 and havnt had a problem with them. Cheaper than getting them reco'd aswell
Thanks for the replies you have all helped so much. It is a V6, I just drive it like a V8...![]()
A leaking injector would cause a rough and prehaps smokey start up as well.
What about the charcoal canister, dont they stink like petrol if they are on the way out?
In either case go with whatever Hako says, he is usually right.
That was my thought, generally it's one of the three lines running to it though, at least that's my understanding.
To the OP; find the charcoal canister under the bonnet and check the hoses leading to it for splits and cracks. You may get out of your repairs much cheaper than you think.
Just incase, the charcoal canister is the black cylinder mounted up the front of the engine bay near the power steering pump, it will have a series of black hoses comming off of it.
Thanks for the replies I will be doing the work this weekend, so I will let you know how I go.
