Default Fitting a temp guage ?

I had my car checked out at an auto electricians because the temp guage has been reading on the last notch before hot whilst city driving, everything thing else is good also had it pressure tested , it sat idleing outside the elect' workshop for an hour and a half, going by there scanner it sat on 104 Cel' after an hour, didn't look like boiling over, they say it must be the temp guage itself, they spent a long time checking everything, checking the wires, temp sender resistance etc.

So I got a price to fix it from them, $ 177 for a new gauge plus labour, roughly 300 bucks all up they reckon, so I have ringing around the wreckers and can get another one for $22, with 3 months warrantry, so If it isn't to hard I would have a crack at it myself, anyone have any experience doing these ?

    Appreciate any advise
    Thanks

Just a matter of getting the dash fascia off, pulling the cluster out and dismantling the cluster. The hardest part in my opinion is getting the dash fascia off without breaking any of the lugs off - the rest is pretty straightforward.

G'Day Ron, just make sure you disconnect the battery when you pull the dash out - I didn't and it cost me a few dollars to fix
Another option is to fit a separate temp gauge - either electric or bourdon tube type.....cost maybe $50 or so but you'd have to find somewhere to mount it.
This thread by Kopper69 should help in pulling the dask. Good luck.
