ok well here is how it is. i have a 98 vs ute and i just put a fully rebuilt 4.2 ecotec stroker into it with a camtec cam and memcal has been tuned to suit and all the flash bits. put the motor in and it was all going well, took it for a drive around the block and everything is still going good. left it idleing for about 2 hours and turned the motor off. come back about 2 hours later and it wont start. came up with error code 49 and 46 which is
Code 46 - No Reference Signals While Cranking
Code 49 - Cam / Crank Shaft Signal Intermittent
changed the crank angle sensor and still no start. checked everything we could think of on the engine and the sensors.... any one got any ideas?
DFI and coils maybe
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong

coils are brand new and dfi was of my 3.8 and it was going fine 3 days earlier
did you try disconecting the battery overnight after doing the sencors
or did you just delete them on the scanner(the fault codes)(battery should only need half an houre off)
try another dfi anyway

yeah we tryed a seperate dfi and coils still no good. only thing i can think of is there is a broken wire somewhere...
does it have any spark at all if not ide be checking the fuses in the engine bay and testing for power on the red wire at the dfi plug as long as theres power and the cas is connected and good it should spark even if the ecu isnt working

all the fuses are good... but still no start
I'd suggest cam angle sensor or broken wire somewhere

IS the fuel pump running when you crank it
we replaced the cam angle sensor and yeah the fuel pump is working
could it be the body control module??
Just mentioning
The ECOTEC has both a CAM angle sensor & a CRANK angle sensor.

Check the plugs. Stig had all sorts of problems a while back - smelled like a dead dfi however it checked out ok. Changed it over anyway - still no go. Turned out to be the dfi plug to the loom - it looked fine but 1 pin wasn't making contact. Just an idea anyways....

nah its 3 broken wires from the crank angle sensor. cause it gets no reading it doesnt send a spark to the spark plugs. but ordered a new bit of the look so should be going tomorrow
