I guess you mean when you are driving and stop at lights or whatever with the engine still running that the temp gauge goes up to 1/2 or higher - if this is what's happening it's completely normal. The Commo has an electric radiator cooling fan which only turns on when the gauge reaches about 3/4 or the A/C is tuened on. When the car is in motion, ram air is sufficient to cool the radiator.

ok now I got that out of the way... It's normal mate, when your stopped there isn't enough airflow getting into the car/engine, especially when your in traffic and all the hot exhaust fumes are getting sucked in. When your moving, air is moving into the front of the car, therefore keeping it cooler. Also, the thermo fan will kick in at some stage just after halfway and it will cool. Also make sure you have water in the radiator/overflow, I know too many people that ask this question and they don't even bother checking that there is no water in the frigging radiator and overflow.

OK with the vr-vs commodore it goes up to 3/4 with air-con off is normal with the newer commodores it only goes to half way. So vs 3/4 normal vt on i think half way got it.

The cut-in temp for the VS cooling fan is 104deg C for low speed (3/4 on gauge) and 109deg C for high speed (7/8 gauge) Both will cut-out when temps are 5 deg C lower. Turning the A/C on will put fan to HIGH irrespective of gauge reading.

From the above it's clear that the VS is designed to run HOT.
