In theory they should work and I dont see why they shouldnt. Just make sure to protect your plug leads with some kind of insulation on the edges of the shield as they can and will slice the leads which will cause issues as you could understand.
My opinion only but I cannot see how they would be of much help - the air intake, whether CAI or standard sits well in front of the exhaust headers away from this source of heat - in traffic the temp of your intake air and it's relationship to performance doesn't matter as you are only crawling along.
When cruising the ram effect flows the heat from the headers under and to the rear of the car. The ECU monitors the intake air temperature and adjusts the fuel/air mix to suit.
You could probably obtain a similar benefit by wrapping the air intake with aluminium foil.
However, I must admit they would look pretty smart on an engine.
it would reduce the convection effect of hot air rising a little.
So may help to keep the bits up top a little cooler.
I'm considering making something similar but ashit load bigger.
Marketing. That is all.
My opinion is that they may stop a bit of heat but won't make any difference to performance.
only really worthwile on the passanger side to stop radiated heat from heating the intake duct. i have this on both my cars. i've also wrapped the intake pipe on the VN with header wrap. i can make em for about $20 worth of ali and couple hrs time to cut and make em.
FIT was the first to make heat shield in this fashion, although i believe i was the first to cut holes for the sprakplug leads. all the previous designs have notches cut in from the top for the leads. looks remarkably like mine really
they can be made to fit any ecotec or buick with slight alterations

noticed they made out of stainless steel, just another heat soaking device in the engine bay if you ask me, they would need to be made out of 2 different materials separate with some sort of air gap between the 2 materials for it to work efficiently, Ya know like the ones on early Japanese cars, one piece folded over the other.
polish em, underneath as well, then it actually reflects the radiated heat. as hako mentioned, once your moving airflow through the engine bay will keep things reasonably cool. it's more for those periods that your idling, it helps to keep things a bit cooler, stops the intake duct from getting heated by all that radiated heat that comes of the headers. the best solution is to actually get your headers coated but this is a lot cheaper
on my VN my entire intake tract stays cool, even the TB is only slightly warm which is much better then the standard setup which can get quiet warm. by itself it might not make much difference but with all the other mods it does add up
also run a cooler thermostat and alter the on/off settings for the thermo fan in the tune, keeps things much cooler![]()

Yeah I reckon the passenger side would be the only side that would do anything. But it would probably look cool having both sides I guess, might make the engine look fatter with both. I still dunno though. Might just try to wrap up my intake pipe like you Immortality, I reckon that'll do the trick

Before I bought my Commodore I owned a few Jaguar XJ6's with twin SU carbies - anyway, they were fitted with a "fuel cooler" which was a device that used the refrigerant from the airconditioning to cool the fuel before it entered the fuel bowls. It would reduce the temperature of the fuel down to about 3 degrees C. But even with this the old Jags loved to boil coolant, brake fluid, engine oil and petrol usually all at the one time.
ye i got these in my car. Work very well. Stops a lot of the heat inside the engine bay. The intake pipe hardly ever gets hot or just gets warm. I would recommend them to everyone with a VS trying to keep it cooler.
i have seen these on a website somewhere but cant remember what it was, anyone know?
You may have seen this one Heat Shield for Exhaust Manifold - Stop the Heat from Rising from your Exhaust Manifold or Extractors into your Intake Ducting on Ecotec and Supercharged V6 Commodore Engines It's only on the passenger side. Running heat shields on both sides is more beneficial then just running the one.
cheers for that dude ^
