Default Power steering stopped dead but everything else is fine!

My VR Berlina V6 wagon was running fine and then i took off and forgot it was in first gear hit the limiter for a very short period of time and next corner there was no power steering (it feels like turning a truck), it has plenty of fluid and looks like it's still pumping fluid when i revved it the fluid was moving around.
I've never had any dramas with it before and now I'm stumped, any idea's on what it could be?

Could be an airlock in the rack if the fluid level was low when you over-revved it. I'd try filling the reservoir and then remove the return hose from the rack to make sure the fluid is actually going to the rack and returning.
