Hey my VR VR auto had been over heating some time ago we had the mechanic look over it and found that the timing case cover had corrosion and was causing whirlpools that prevented the water from flowing and cooling the engine, any way he used some resin as a quick fix (as i couldn't afford to fix it) and was perfect for a couple months, tonight i was driving in this very humid weather and the car over heated the warning chime went off and the temp was on red and i had to stop, open the bonnet and let it cool off, 3 times i had to do this before i got home, doing 60 with cruise control on and no traffic ahead of me and the temp was still going up, had to stop just before it hit the read line, coolant is green as can be, fans working, no leaks that i can find and oil doesn't seem to be contaminated with water, previous owner had replaced the radiator and water pump and when i brought it the gauge didn't work, later i found that the temp sender had been disconnected... my question is how much work is involved in replacing this timing case cover,
any help would be fantastic at this point. Cheers.
it's a couple hr's work to change the timing cover if oyu have the required tools. need to remove the harmonic ballancer which you need a proper pulling tool for. ideally you also need to loosen of the sump which is a pain. otherwise getting the timing cover back on with the sump gasket in place can be a real pain.
