hey guys i got a vs ute 5litre and in the past year and a bit i have had my rear left axel seal fixed twice and just recently it has buggered up again.
its a limited slip diff and i bearly do skids and that and i was wondering if any body could give me any reasons why its happened this many times too the same side of my diff cause my right one is perfectly fine so yeah if some one can give any reasons it be much appreciated
Check the breather on the diff - if it's blocked oil will be forced past seals when the oil heats up.
cheers i will have a look, would i have to have the seal replaced again???
Possibly not if it is a blocked breather - if it was repaired by a 'proper' mechanic they should have checked the breather first. Try cleaning first (if it is the breather)
has the axle been checked for seal runout it may be burning out the seal ? ???? is the housing straight ???
just took car to a mechanic who took it for a drive, he said it most likely is the bearings, he puts the fault on previous mechanic who "fixed" it, he reckons that the other guy packed it full of grease to like delay the oil leaking, booked in for tuesday to get looked at properly.
you know those back yard boys ??????
it was done by a transmission and differential place, had seal and that fixed then couple weeks later it was leaking and he fixed it free of charge and now it buggered again a year later all on the same side, rear left
That sounds a bit sus - if the seal was replaced you must first remove the bearing and the retaining ring to actually replace the seal....it is normal practice to replace the ($11) bearing at the same time and the retaining ring.
Packing the bearing with grease is one of the old used car salesman's tricks.
had car in to the mechanic, he showed me wat was wrong, i need a new axle and every thing that goes with it, brake disc, bearings etc, he said the axel is bent and there was a something that was bent out of shape that was grinding into the disc that has left a small trench like groove in it.
was either my fault or previous owners not too sure, we dont know why the previous guy who fixed the axel seal didnt tell me about it
