Car is a factory LPG car that has had LPG setup removed a few years ago. Is at 380xxx ks and I suspect it has been run dry. I put 15 litres of fuel in and had a tried to start it a couple of times. After I stopped cranking (each time) I could hear the fuel pump still running, and a loud gurgling noise from the fuel tank as the pump stops. Suspect a blockage or air bubbles in the fuel lines. Going to bleed the fuel system when I finish work tonight. Any other ideas?
Hi, These fuel systems should not need bleeding,They continually circulate the fuel from tank to engine and what is not used is directed strait back to the tank. Air should not be able to block it at all.The other things I'd look at are the fuel filter, could be blocked, or the fuel pressure regulator at the back of the fuel rail,it might get blocked up if it was run on gas for ages and the fuel left inside the rail evaporates and goes like varnish type stuff.someone else here will more than likely know more than me about it,but I hope this helps you out.
If it has run dry then the pump will be stuffed. It sounds like it is working, but it can't build up any pressure. Try a different pump. I would replace the filter too.
Try pulling the fuel line off at the regulator and just turning on the ignition key. You should get fuel flowing out of there. If not then as above, fuel filter may be blocked. It could also be your MAP sensor being faulty, or Crank Angle Sensor faulty. Try also checking for blown fuses...
Is it at least attempting to fire?
Yeah Im not sure about the fuel pump. Though a stuffed pump+ fuel filter does make a lot of sense. Im gonna whip the hose off just before the regulator and run some fuel through to see. If not in the morning Il whip the injectors, regulator and filter off the VR and see if it helps.
Check if its got any error codes. I've replaced my crank angle sensor TWICE in 2 years!! Same problem. Kept cranking over but didn't want to start.
Turned out to be the immobilizer. Because the keyhead has been glued back together by a previous owner, rather than screwed, there was no contact between the key and the keyhead (you will know what I mean if you have pulled one to bits before). So now the locks need to be cycled before you can start it.
