hi everyone shouldnt it be blowing air out the valley ie crank case blow by? cheers chris
crankcase blow by happens when compression escapes down past the pistons and rings and goes into the crankcase.Usually a worn engine does it

yer i no that but whot im arksing is it right for it to be sucking not blowing?
The pcv valve, or positive crankcase ventilation valve scavenges any blow by and recycles it in the combustion process. It gets sucked into the engine with the petrol and air.It creates a slight vacuum in the crankcase which will cause it to suck. The pcv valve in the ecotec(vs)is inside the inlet manifold.years ago before pollution gear was introduced, the crankcase was vented to the atmosphere,on a worn engine you could see smoke and fumes puffing out of the breather, not good for the enviroment,so they came up with the recycle idea.So Id say it should have suction.

Chris, how do you know this is happening ? did you run the engine with the plenum lid off ?
so it should be sucking? no didnt take plenum lid of im talking bout the pipe that goes betwen the inlet manifold under the plenum to the throttle body cheers
your refering to the filtered air pipe which should have a small amount of vacum as this where the air enters the engine and then gets drawn thru the PCV and back into the engine
thanks strgas![]()
quick question, if you were to take out the pcv valve and leave the cover off and start the engine what would happen? has anyone done this. i did it today to see if i could feel and blow-by and the engine just revved very high
whot do ya mean by cover? engine cover thats says ecotec on it or plenum lid or rocker cover? im gessing ur talking about plenum lid yer it would probly rev off its head or somting wierd if i even started lol y are you arsking about it if your already done it ? just take the oil filler cap off and putt ur hand over the hole and fell the amont thats coming out my engine witch is pretty tired and theres no blow bye im guess thats probly cos i got the pvc connected il check that out tomoro
with the amount of pollution gear on them nowdays you cant even judge blowby with the cap off it all gets sucked out so fast thats where most people go wrong looking at cars they think its in great condition due to no vapours coming out the lid LOL
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong
tabbacco is still my favorite vegetable
Yeah, engine managment was a lifesaver though, just compare a vl engine bay to a vn,the vl has about a million miles of hose, most of it pollution gear
sorry to every one thats posted in this thread was in a bit of a hurry yestorday and didnt realies the pcv is inside the plenum lol as i thort the filted air pipe wos the pcv i pulld the plenum lid off this moring and seen the pcv isee how it all works now cheer everyone![]()
