crankcase blow by happens when compression escapes down past the pistons and rings and goes into the crankcase.Usually a worn engine does it

The pcv valve, or positive crankcase ventilation valve scavenges any blow by and recycles it in the combustion process. It gets sucked into the engine with the petrol and air.It creates a slight vacuum in the crankcase which will cause it to suck. The pcv valve in the ecotec(vs)is inside the inlet manifold.years ago before pollution gear was introduced, the crankcase was vented to the atmosphere,on a worn engine you could see smoke and fumes puffing out of the breather, not good for the enviroment,so they came up with the recycle idea.So Id say it should have suction.

your refering to the filtered air pipe which should have a small amount of vacum as this where the air enters the engine and then gets drawn thru the PCV and back into the engine

quick question, if you were to take out the pcv valve and leave the cover off and start the engine what would happen? has anyone done this. i did it today to see if i could feel and blow-by and the engine just revved very high

with the amount of pollution gear on them nowdays you cant even judge blowby with the cap off it all gets sucked out so fast thats where most people go wrong looking at cars they think its in great condition due to no vapours coming out the lid LOL

Yeah, engine managment was a lifesaver though, just compare a vl engine bay to a vn,the vl has about a million miles of hose, most of it pollution gear

under bung behind the thermostat housing... revved as if it was WOT...guess it must have fed all the air from there to the throttle body??
