Whats causing the scratching on my side windows?

as the title says, my side windows on the ute always seem to get scratched up in one spot when the window is wound up and down, leaving big vertical gouges. I've got a feeling a something is missing that guides the window. Any ideas?

My mate had a similar issue with his monaro. He found that some small sand got into the outer seal that's against the glass and was scratching the glass.

He pulled off the seal, cleaned it and was sweet.

That's one possibility...
