Had problem a few months ago with black smoke on starting hot or cold. Replaced pressure reg valve and ok for a while but problem returned recently plus now have rising oil level. oil smells of petrol. Any suggestions?
check carbon canister lines for fuel ... is the car on gas ??? fuel tank venting via carbon canister ????
is that part of the fuel return or venting system
Thats correct it stores fuel vapour from the tank and allows the fuel tank to breathe without venting fuel to the atmosphere . if the hoses are blocked or kinked it could then force fuel thru the vent lines into the engine
I know a guy who had a leaking injector, and had the same thing happen to his oil, could be worth checking, it would have to get past the piston and rings to get to the oil.I suppose it could get squeezed past on startup, but Id have thought it would cause the motor to not turn, same as when a head gasket blows and you get water into the cylinders,It cant squeeze liquid like it can air and locks up.Has your motor been hard to wind over at all?
