    Default Impossible VS problem?

    Hi,

I have a Commo VS Executive (V6) and having a problem where my car is randomly cutting out on me. Some times after the car cuts out I can start it, but some times it won't start for a random length of time..
When I can't start it, it is cranking over but there is no spark at the coil pack.

    I have changed:

    ECU (tried 3)
    Crank angle sensor
    DFI (coil pack)
    The lume
    Cam angle sensor
    Fuel pump

Despite changing these things, the problem is still occuring and was wondering if anyone has any ideas of what could be causing this problem?

Does the car cut out or surge drmatically when turning corners etc. I had a VS V6 auto commodore that used to surge and cut out all the time. At first we thought it was the fuel system so we replaced all the injectors, rails, pump and everything only to still have the problem. After a lot of yelling, swearing and hair pulling we fould it to be a faulty coil pack. Check each one and if need be $90 from Coventries will hopefully fix it straight away.
    Hope this helps you.

As I stated in another thread, I have been having the same problem, replaced a tonne of crap and I think I have finally nailed it down to it being the immobiliser. I have my car booked in next week to have the BCM replaced.

This car is an execute model, so there is no immobilizer, but I've changed my BCM and the problem still occurs.

Yeah, there is a red LED that flashes, but isn't there suppose to be like an RFID key that tells the immobilizer receiver that its OK for the car to switch on?

Does your key have a big black head with two or more buttons?

Don't thinnk the amount of buttons has much to do with it. When you put the key in, the edges of the key make contact with two pieces of metal around the ignition barrel. That contact is what tells the BCM that the key is in the ignition.

This is a good chance to make sure the two pieces of metal are making good contact with the keyhead.

Anyway, I'm retty sure all VS's had it. I don't think the imobiliser key in the pillar has been in use since VP's.

If that red light is flashing, the immobiliser is on - it goes out when the BCM has the correct signal from the keyhead. If it doesn't go out the car will not run.
That's the way I understand it....but I could be wrong.

Yes you are right however the reason why I asked this question was to determine whether the original poster was using the proper ignition key, not some other alien contraption.

Mate I had a commodore do similar things,It would cut out,and not start, then it would go,we ended up tracking it to a broken wire at the rear of the car where the fuel pump goes into the tank, the wires were all shabby and one had broken, but not right through, and was loosing contact now and then.Rejoined and never happened again. It could be worth a look. But if theres definitely no spark ,this wont help much.

check the fuel pressure reg, check the wires at the bottom of the relays and next time it happens when it cranks but wont start pull off the fuel line and see if its getting fuel.

    Coolant temp. sensor.
My commodore would cut out randomly, well not cut out but it was feel as though it was gonna stall / backfire when i would accelerate. It would also piss out black smoke when it would randomly do this. So each time it happened, i would have to switch it off and then restart it, but sometimes it wouldn't start because i would of flooded it so would have to wait 5 or so mins.
Maybe this is your problem ?

dont mean to hijack but with my starting issue, the ignition is in the on position, car wont start and the immobiliser red light remains flashing, does this mean theres a problem with the contacts of the ignition?

disable the security system there might be a key hole in the passenger side front door jam you need the little key for it. then see if that fixes it.
