Read all the threads and stuff. was told when i got hte car the a/c fan was dead and needed replacing.
Well got pissed off with the heat today spent some time to get to the fan, tested the electronic connection to it to find nothing... thought hey thats not right, used the plug from the glovebox light to have the fan roar into life.
Any ideas why this would be happening?
then your fan is ok check your fuses and fan speed controller next don't forgot the earths to ...
Might be the control under the plastic cover near your windscreen wipers my fan wouldn't work on some speeds though!

Yes I know, if you get anymore manly you are in danger of making yourself pregnant!
sounds like your speed controller has burnt out coils , remove it and check the coils
wheres that and how do i check?
Here is the complete "how to" from........the "how to" section of this forum.
Replacing the Fan Speed Resistor
wonders what the whole arrogance here thing is on the forums, there are pages upon pages upon pages which have differant methods, differant ways etc to do things.
There is nothing wrong for asking people for a method they would reccomend when you are too time consumed to go through reading 15 pages of stuff that might have 3 thing that could possibly work when you just want one recomended thing with a min of fuss.
I suspect that you've read something into the text that isn't there. Just one of the difficulties with text only communication.
There is a lot of relevant info. in the "how to".
If the fan won't work on any speed, then it won't be the resistor as that is only used on '1-3'. '4' is through a relay on a separate wiring circuit.
yeah we got zip, there are two power connections on the conectors powering it, no juice going to it at all. cant find any defect with the connector......
One thing i have noticed tho
under the dash it has listed that Fuse 9 which includes AC, it has a 20 sitting in it..... yet on the fuse map it says 9 is two fuses, and both at differant levels...
From my (VP) wiring diagram, fuse 9 provides power to the switch and the switch connects the circuit to the fan speed resistors (then to the fan) or the switching side of the blower fan relay. Power for the switched side of the relay, = power to the fan on speed 4, is via the fusible link under the bonnet.
Other than fuse 9, the only connector that will remove power from the fan on all speeds is the one directly into the back of the fan speed switch.
The earth is common to all speeds and ultimately ends up at the stud with the 10mm nut just above the battery.
i had a problem with my fans not coming on intermittantly which was solved by cleaning the pins on a relay under the bonnet, dunno if that helps.
that was after id tryed everything else ofcourse.
i cant remember what the relay was called but it was one of the 2 smaller ones off too the side so you could try swapping those around just too see.
BEst thing you could do is invest in a multi meter.
Check for power reaching the fuse, then slowly make your way along the circuit doing a continuity check from the fuse all the way to the end of the fan wiring.
Do a continuity check from the earth pins to the body of the car first though :P It might also pay to make sure that your fan speed switch isn't for some reason rooted.
I guess you have checked the fuses and tried swapping the relay with another one?
Honestly without a multi meter it's almost like stabbs in the dark,
My apologies if you misinterpreted something in my post. When I read your post and your question 'how do I check' I went straight to the "how to" section, copied the link and then posted the link and where it came from simply so you knew where it came from.
Only trying to help.![]()
yeah is all good bro, im too use to the electronics and hacking forums where the second someone asks a question most of hte nerds there have massive ego's.
Anyway will check the front fuses when i know what im looking at i've multimetered everything in the cockpit first. It's been too hot to stand in front of the engine today checking up the fuses and stuff, especially when i dont know which ones to target, like you said stabs in the dark atm.
my mech wants to take a look at it, but I usually handle jobs like this myself to save my minimum wage cash.
we kinda have a system, i have a problem, he has a look at it gives me his opinion, I do half or all of it
then he does the rest if theres any of it and I buy extra stuff or bring him drinks.
He reckons best thing about it is when shit breaks down i dont expect him to come bail my ass out (cos i can fix several things) they have so many customers who then break shit and demand freebies off them claiming it was their fault.
