OK about three months ago the car I purchased (95 Statey) had a whole NEW A/c Compressor and other parts and yes I know just take it back under warranty but it's a big distance from place of purchase .... ANYWAY you turn the A/C on and the clutch engages but only spinns VERY VERY slowly even at high revs so the belt is slipping, when you turn it off the pulley spins as free as a bird.
Any ideas I re tensioned the belt gave it a squirt of lube but na nudda zip zilch
Please help.
Cheers
Does anyone have a clue
dont put lube on anything to do with belts and withe car turned off turn the ac compressor bye hand does it turn with a umm pumpy action or a grindy action
Float like an elephant sting like a tree clubsport hits what doug does'nt see
Are you sure it's not the clutch slipping - sometimes the electroclutch does not pull the pulley firmly back enough against the compressor plate. If the belt is slipping it 'should' squeal. Another possibility is that the system is low on gas which makes the gas hot and hard to compress although usually the hi press switch will cut the comp out.
You need to adjust the airconditioner belt tension. First loosen the bolt in the middle of the airconditioner pulley. At the bottom of the bracket holding the pulley there is an adjusting bolt. You need to screw this anti-clockwise (to the left) until the belt is at the right tension. Then tighten the bolt in the middle of the pulley bracket.
Is it a V6 or 8 ? The V6 should tension automatically as every thing runs off the serpentine belt. From what BlackVXGTS is describing he is referring to a V8 A/C setup as they run there own separate A/C belt and if that is the case check the condition of the belt to make sure it's not cracked and shiny, but hopefully that was replaced at the same time the A/C unit was.
Mmmmm V8
Seems funny how the compressor is brand new.I wonder if the previous owners had the same thing happen with the old compressor and replaced it thinking that the compressor was the problem.Id be checking other stuff like pressure switches as well as the compressor, maybe a blocked up AC system.Although the hi/lo pressure switches should cut the compressor off if there is a problem with the AC system.Maybe take it to an AC specialist.Or try another compressor to see if the same thing happens. The only problem with testing different parts on the AC system is as soon as you swap compressors etc the system will need to be recharged(regassed).Which makes it an expensive test.I guess it comes down to how bad you want your AC working.
