Angry vs looses power upon acceration

hi i got this problem with my 95 vs acclaim. It starts up ok and drive good for about 5 mins and then it starts missing when i put my foot down but drives ok at low acceleration. Ive replaced spark plugs it was good for about 1 hour and then the problem came back running like a bucket of puss again. any suggestions

could be stuffed fuel pump, crappy fuel or crap in the tank, blockage in injectors, old and dirty fuel filter, blocked air intake or dirty filter pad.

Some of those things can be fixed by running some injector cleaner in your fuel tank.

I had a similar problem and it ended up being a dead fuel pump.

I'd reckon the next thing to replace would be your ignition leads. The fact that it improved when you replaced the plugs points to an ignition problem. They usually need to be replaced every few years.

I had the same problem as your having when I owned my VS. I found out that it was the ignition leads as already said above. I would try these next. Get genuine or a brand name set eg Bosch etc. Don't pay hundreds of $$$ for big name leads which are not necessary.

Ok, 5 mins later you have probs when u put ur foot down? I'll assume ur on the road by this stage. What if ur parked and u give it a rev once the oil presure quitens the rockers (less then 1 min), same issue? (get under ur hood and rev via teh throttle cable on the throttle body).
Power = air and fuel (+ spark and compression).
So if you lack power under demand then the question now becomes whats wrong with my air and/or my fuel delivery system?

Could be air flow - not enough air getting in through the intake, filter, throttle body, manifold or valves? take ur pick.
Could be fuel delivery - blockages, filter, pump, presure regulator, injectors, valves? once again take your pick, any of these could give said symptoms.
Your CAT could even be semi blocked restricting flow... start at the top, test as much as possible, there are other ways to test some parts then just by replacing them (a good multimeter at $20 is cheaper then what I paid for new leads for my VS).

I'd be checking the state inside the plenum if a major service doesn't do the trick.
Replace fuel filter and leads. If u still have issues then you may need a fuel injector service. Assumeing u've checked a fair bit of stuff b4 hand like the air filter and as much of the top end as possible.

However if you replace everything listed above then ur car will be alot happier even if the prob is still there and besides if u need to get a new engine u can take most of them parts over to the next one

Theres nothing better then getting in under the hood tho and having a good listen.
Could be somthing realy simple that takes a bit of wisdom to spot. Happy hunting and best of luck

its seems to be a spark problem i reackon the leads too. How do i test the fuel pump? but when the car 1st starts up its ok its only when its heats up to operational temp it fails.

could it be the coil packs or the plate underneath?

my VS ute is having the same problem, as it will be fine just driving but when i want the power it just "laggs" and its a manual so its usually at the end of any gear when the revs get to about 2700 just stays and wont move till i change to next gear then its fine till hits 2700ish again.
but this doesnt happen all the time only every now and again

LOL can i jump on the "leads" bandwagon too

out of curiosity, what did the plugs look like that came out? all covered in black soot or nice and clean with a light brown tint on the insulator?

I'd pull a few of the new plugs out and check how clean they are after having been in there for a bit just out of caution, that is not a major issue, Probly leads tho... Only happens when it's warmed up u say?

Multimeter: Pull out a lead, set to Ohms and test resistance.
Find out what resistance rang should be (google or speak to plenty of auto sparkys and mechanics)
