The bearing in my water pump is making funny noises... and the clutch fan moves side to side so I'm guessing the water pump bearing is on its way out. Went and bought a new pump today, and some gasket goo along with a new bottom hose. About 4 weeks ago I replaced the radiator + cap, top hose, thermostat + housing, gave it a full engine flush etc and it's all been good, doesn't get hot etc. Have a couple of questions before I install this as I haven't done a water pump before.
The pump is a Protex brand (from supercheap) and came with 2 gaskets and a spacer. Anyone know if the spacer needs to be used or is it there for aligning if needed? I'm guessing that I need to put the gasket sealant on both sides of both gaskets?? And finally... do I need to locktite the bolts on the clutch fan and water pump or is it not required?
