Angry Power steering pump wont line up?

Guys i need some urgent help, iv reassembled my engine, everything is fine except the power steering pump pulley is about a belt thickness in front of the crank pulley, has any1 had this problem, its almost like iv achieved the impossible or someone has broken into my garage and swapped my pump with a longer shaft one lol, every other pulley lines up and i cant see how else the pump and bracket can be placed.......

I think you have the pulley on the wrong way haha.

the belt lines cover the shaft it bolts onto.
so the belt lines should not cover where it bolts onto.

Sorry thanx for the reply but don't quite understand which pulley your referring to as put on the wrong way.
Attached is a lil drawing of my problem, im pretty sure the pulleys r right way round and the p/s pulley was never taken off the pump

    cheers.

i would be checking how u have mounted it to the engine. check that its been bolted all the way u can and that the bracket isnt bent

everything seems to be put on exactly how it came off according to some pics i took before, the brackets arent bent and its tight against the engine. i just cant figure it out all the other pulleys r perfect.

are you sure this pump is of a vr? the pump and the pulleys look nothing like whats on my vr v6. i dont think ive ever seen a vr that uses a v belt. it looks like an early commodore pump.

If it's the same pump untouched, then it HAS to be something to do with how it's mounted...It's been a few years since I had my V8 so can't remember if there was any special way of mountinf them...??

Do u have any photos of the engine from before it was pulled apart ?
Can the pump mounting plate sit behind the other plate it sits against ?
