Purchased my VS Ute 3 years ago - Central locking never worked- Decided to get it going.Got a new key and followed instructions -Still wont work. It makes a click sound from under dash when I try to activate by pressing unlock and lock on key.Where do I start?
The clicking sound is probably the BCM(Body Control Module) or the relays near the fuses .The BCM controls the central locking (except on series 1 utility) and might have somthing wrong with it.Also I would check the relays,Im not sure if the central locking uses any relays under the dash, but they make a clicking sound and they might be worth checking. You can try to reset the BCM by removing the fuel pump fuse (under the bonnet)for a min.You might have to get a mechanic to connect a diagnostic scanner to it and see if there are any errors showing up in the BCM.
Central locking was not standard on utes, even though your keyhead may have a door unlock button does not mean you have central locking. I was in the same boat here, you can hear the click when you press the button but all that is, is the BCM flicking on the interior light and deactivating the immobiliser light in the dash.
I went out an bought door solenoids from the wrecker thinking mine were shot, I pulled the entire door trim off, and there was nothing, no wiring or solenoids or anything. Mine never came with central locking.
yeah the gregorys manual says the VS series 1 utility does not have central locking. Is yours series 1?

Not sure if Series 1 or 2- How do I tell?
Mate, found this on the net.VS series 2 was released in June 1996(It does'nt say whether the ute is included or not,I guess it would have been)and series 3 in May 1998.Dont know how accurate this info is ,there wasnt much mentioned about the subject.I had to have a good look to find this.

Looked on compliance plate-Dec 05 Maybe it does not have central locking?
how do you install central locking?
had the same with my ute.. clicking sound but not working.. pulled doors apart to find there was no central locking solenoids there.. so off to the wreckers i went. Very easy to fit, you need the whole lock assembly from inside the door and the wiring loom, which unplugs under the dash. Just plug the new loom in to your dash loom run it through the door and plug in to the new solenoid/lock and it should work a treat.
