Engine light ON! :(

Help Please!!! The engine light in my vs came on today (goes out at start up and then comes back on, stany on) changed the water pump a few weeks ago and she was running sweet, well still is if a little warm today. have poked around under the hood and also checked the fuses, listened for strange noises, checked the radiator is full and that there is no visible damage to any hoses, wires etc have only a fraction of any understanding about codes and diagnostis etc as all of my other cars have been old school metal road tripers with nothing more complicated in them than a vaccume advance! So if you can look past my ignorance and give a girl a hand I would appreciate it!!

In addition to the excellent advice from Brett jjj, I'd like to add that I've been having virtually the same problem of late, and found mine to be a combination of an almost flat battery in the key and dirty contacts where the metal projection bit of the key contacts the ring around the ignition keyhole.
Hope yours is as easy.
