So i have a vs thats had a vr series 2 motor and manual dropped in it. the car runs great but my problem is that the speedo on the dash doesnt work. now after a little research ive found out that the speedo sensor on the back of the t5 isnt hooked up to the ecu (just has 3 wires hanging off the box) . so as i dont know anything about the history of the car im pressuming the ecu has also been changed over from the VR the motor and box came out of, but now my question is......
if i get the wires ran from the speedo sensor to the ecu will the VS dash be compatible and start working again?
has anyone had this issue or can any1 shed some light on what im dealing with?
cheers
have a read of this The complete Vn-Vr Manual Conversion Guide.
it explains how to wire up the speed sensor (VSS)
VR and VS dashes should be the same if i remember correctly so no problems there.

thanx for the quick reply..i shall get my read on!
ok so everything is fine, car went to an auto elec today and found out exactly whats goin on.
the loom was never changed from auto to manual so nothing was hooked up to the dash. took the elec 2 hours today to run some new wires and everything works fine.
if i can be bothered one day ill get myself a manual loom and do a proper job but for now its all good..
thanx to every1 for the advice, the wireing diagram that i got from here made it allot easier for the elecy to do his job, which in turn saved me cash!
cheers!
Cant really use a proper manual wiring loom unless you get a VR manual ECU (very rare!)
Aslong as your speedo and reverse lights work, it will be fine.. does it throw up any warning lights on the dash?
What alot of people do is just get the Auto ecu re-tuned to suit the manual which will stop the dash throwing up error lights and sometimes they can stall as the tune is not 100%.
Delcowizzid would be the one to call on for that.

well as a matter of fact there are a couple of errors in the instrument lights.
for eg. when i turn the ignition on (prior to turning it over) the fog light comes on untill i start the car and it goes away, and the other is when i put my high beams on the hand break light turns on and vice versa.
please tell me more about re-tuning my exisiting ecu and also about delcowizzid, ive been seeing his name and greenfoams turn up allot on site.
how do i go about getting in contact and does it matter i live in brisbane?
cheers
btw.... is the the hard to find ECU u were talking about?

That looks like the one, but I would'nt buy off that bloke, his modded tunes dont have much of a great reputation..
Delcowizzid lives in NZ but many members post their memcal (EPROM chip inside ECU) to him to get edited/tuned.. If you plan on putting a VS motor and ECU back in then try and get a manual ecu and you will have no probs as only certain VS auto ecu's can be used with manuals...and if you end up using a L67 then you will definately need a custom tuned memcal

thanx heaps for the information, given me plenty to think about.
at the least its going to be a while before any engine upgrades are going to happen in the meantime i think ill be gettin my existing ecu re-done to get me buy for now.
do i just search up Delcowizzid on here and msg him? or is there some other avenue a newbie like myself doesnt know about?
I would have thought you would definately be getting an engine/powertrain light as the auto gearbox is missing
got no ideas on your other error lights.
Yeah pm or email him through here, i hear he is very busy but should be able to sort you out + a nice little power gain![]()

nope, no engine light at all...
cheers, ill be definatly trying to get in contact with this master tuner!!!
hmm strange maybe check that they havent pulled the globe out of the cluster! if the globe is still in place, the auto ecu may have already been tuned to suit or you may have a manual ECU already.
also might want to check exactly what model # ecu you have should be written on the casing.
Have a look at this thread Memcal ID codes you should have either 16176424 PCM (auto) or a 16183082 ECM. (man)

definatly hasnt got the globe missing, have alreadty takin the cluster out a few times and changed the odometer cog..made sure i checked all the globes while it was out..
the cars still at the auto elecs till early 2morow morning, that will be the first thing i check when its back....with anyluck im hopefully onto a winner..ill check those codes first thing and post some results.
wish me luck!!!
hey mate just wondering what the auto electrician charged you for doing the loom conversion, just interested in doing a manual tranformation and a rough price would be good.
cheers
well the hourly rate was pretty high at $99. but only took 2 hours. i was happy to pay $200 to know the job was done well.
ok so cars back from the shop and everything works a treat..
STOKED.
so i went and checked my ECU and it says "16172838 MAN" so im glad its a manual ecu. but i checked the numbers on the "memcal ID Codes" but couldnt find my complete number..but im not even sure if the full numbers even meant to be on there so....
so that means ive got a manual ECU with a modified auto loom. i guess if everything works i shouldnt be worried........ right?
its an 808 it has a BAAN vp manual tune in it all been swapped to vp loom etc the auto loom should of plugged straight into the VSS just wouldnt of had the reverse light wiring hes out trying to find me the engine number so we can see if its a vp engine to match the tune![]()

engine number sent...hopefully i got it right..
btw. would love to know how to check engine numbers... holden could not tell me a thing about the engine number last week..
VH1281081 hopefully 88greenvn sees it and will tell us what it is![]()

Hi, The engine number is right in the middle of the VP production. October 1992 was the production date.
VP engines numbers started around VH1216200 in Aug 91 and finished at VH1324000 June 93
Hope that helps a little.
