hey guys does anyone know a good mechanic that knows a good deal about vr's. i'm having problems with mine and its doing my head in and every other mechanic i have ever taken it to. i'm tired of spending endless money in to thin air and still have same problems.
Thanks Guys
Maybe you should mention what kind of problems. After all... you are on a Commodores forum.
haha i thought id spare everyones ears.
theres a number of things which could all be linked into one or all different problems.
1) i've lost alot of power as well as the car becoming slugish. this has rectified itself for a few days after 6 months and is now back to me putting the foot down it thinking for a while than making alot of revs but not really going any where. "fixed" itself after i put a new coolant temp gauge but as i said just wnet back to slugish after three days.
2) when the car hits 100 plus the revs flicker by 200 +/- when the foot is off the pedal also does this in third gear when foot is off the gas at any speed.
3) whilst i'm accelerating to 100, revs are fine than around about hitting 100+ it drops the revs from about 2300 down to 1900 and does not want to climb back up and ofcourse looses all power until i flatten the gas and it drops back to thrid gear or i drop it manually. also whilst its in that mode if i happpen to go up a little incline with every flicker of revs it starts to jolt similar to running out offuel (it wants to go trys and then looses fuel)
i have replaced the fuel pump as the fuel pressure was low and was prone to dying on me whilst flickering in revs.
bought new vapour hoses about to put them in
checked fuel pressure all fine
checked fuel line all ok
cleaned out the throttle body all fine
ran through the injector cleaner (i know this isnt the greatest fix but better than nothing)
i dont think i have any restricted air flow
at a complete loss any light on this would be aweomse
thanks again![]()
Number 3 sounds like its definitely the lock up converter shitting itself. Thats looking at a new auto box. The auto's sort of have a hard 4th gear and a soft 4th gear. The drop from 2300 to 1900 at 100 as you describe is definitely the box locking into hard 4th. If you have no power when it locks up, something is amiss there.
To be honest, its possible that problems one and two are related to the auto box as well..
Error code check? Will take two mins and should give you some idea where to start.
Yes I know, but that's normally the first place I would check. It won't give an immediate solution/fix but can help diagnose.
I've had it hooked up but nothing in the codes has come up. I've actually had it hooked up about 4 different times in the last 6 months. To be honest I could probably live for a little while longer with the dropping of the revs but the loss of power especially now that I know it's not mechanical since it came back on for a few days is really drivig me up the wall!
could it be the catalytic converter being blocked and restricting air flow?
