    Default vs starting issue

hey guys, ive read through the other threads about starting issues, ive tried the starting in neutral or park, that doesnt work, ive done a error code test to see if its a fault with the key but thats fine aswell.

so heres the problem, i put the key in turn it to accessories they all come on fine but when i turn it one more to start the engine nothing happens, no fuel pump noise nothing, it takes about 4 or 5 turns for it to finally start and then when it starts it chokes abit and sounds as if its a bout to die but then starts fine.

im thinking that possibly could be something wrong with the battery, i'll swap out the battery n see if it starts fine. or possibly an issue with the starter motor!

any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!

Check that the battery terminals are clean and tight first.

When you did the error check, did you wait until you got 3 "12" flashes or just one? 12 will flash 3 times before any error codes are flashed. If it is all OK then the 12 will flash 3 times again after a short pause.

Hey mate, yeah i checked the battery terminals, they are all clean and tight nothing leaking from them either.

yeah i red about that so when i did the error check i sat there for bout 10 minutes and it flashed 12 about 9 times so i assumed it was fine.

reading up i read the issue with the alternator red wire getting corodded and shorting, could that be a possible cause of my engine not starting because the battery hasnt got enough charge?

    thanks for your help!

It can be, but the engine will turn over slower than usual if that was the case.

Does the central locking work from the key OK?

ahh, thats what i forgot to say, the central locking works on all three doors bar the back left passenger, i leave that one permanently down because if i pull it up and lock the car that one remains unlocked and doesnt go down.

I was leading to a flat battery in the key head, but it seems to be fine.

Take the plug off the back of the ignition barrel and give it a clean with contact cleaner.

You can also try pressing the unlock button on the key immediately after you put the key in the ignition and before you turn to start ...you should hear a soft hiss.

could be the sensor on your key..its a little circle thing that touches the round metal bits that circulate your key hole..i had exactly the same problem and that was it..if u have another key try it and see what happens..its got something to do with the immobiliser

abba, just re read what you said, and i thought i should of said that, the central locking only works when i put the key in the drivers door and open it, i have no functionality whatsoever from the unlock and lock buttons , i'll go check the spare key now n see if that has any improvement, do i need to do anything special for the spare key to recognise? i.e leave it on accessories for 30mins or whatever?

There have been a couple of members with similar problems and after the fuel pump was replaced it was all good. So try that.
