Hey fellas need ya help again, I got my CAS replaced the other day and since then ive had a rattle in the front of the car. I turned up to pick my car up and the mechanic says " how long have you had that rattle in the car?" i looked at him puzzled and said "what rattle?" he started the car and there was a rattle it goes away after you drive it but when you first start the car its louder. Ive searched on here and im thinking Harmonic Balancer??? But the mechanic had to take that off to do the CAS and he doesnt know where the rattle is coming from either. So if it was the Harmonic Balancer wouldnt he have noticed it was rooted when he took it off? but like i said it only started after replacing the CAS, what else could it be? i have replaced all the other pulleys besides the water pump too
Sounds like the balancer to me. I would question his balancer removal technique. Or just have a look at balancer and check for any cracks/missing pieces in the rubber. Does it appear to wobble excessively at idle?
just had a look and the rubber is fine too
Try removing the fanbelt and start the engine - this removes the load on the HB - if no rattle with the belt removed it will be either a faulty HB or one of the pulleys.
