Hi there
My vs auto wagon has this problem where it will over heat no matter what now i have changed both temp sensors hoses thumostat and water pump and flushed and cleaned system then new coolent in and it is still overheating. Oh and the thumo fan dose not work unless you have the aircon on and i have fully checked that to and no idea so can some one please help me.
Hi,Have a look at the relays under the bonnet near the fuses,in particular the lo Fan relay, swap it for the LP check relay, they are the same ,then see if the fan comes on.When sitting idling(AC off), the fan should cycle on around half way on the temp gauge, then it should drop down and the fan will cycle off at about a quarter on the gauge,it should just keep repeating this when sitting idling.Usually these relays fail after a while ,Ive gone through a couple of them,If you have a close look at the middle pins on the relay, you will see the plastic has melted around the pin,a sure sign of failure. They are about $10 from holden.Just remember the fan wont work until the temp is around half.

Did you replace your radiator cap with one that has the correct pressure 135kpa. Is the coolant boiling or are you just relying on your temperature gauge? Have you checked your DTCs? (Diagnostic Trouble Codes).
Did you bleed the air out?

Also when bleeding you got to put your heater on.
I will be watching this post for answers as well, as I too have done everything as well, even changed the temp guage, but still my fans won't come on until the temp guage reaches 2 notches off Hot, used to come on at the half way mark.

Just recently upgraded to a Vs from a VN I think im in the same boat...It seems to run alot hotter then the VN ever did. Ive replaced the relay switch and the low speed fan doesnt come on. The high speed does as well as when I put the air con on. So will be interesting to see what people have to say. Also high speed comes on around the 3/4 mark Cheers
Cheers
Hi again,In the gregorys it says to disconnect the coolant sensor wiring and start the engine. After 12 seconds the engine cooling fan should start rotating at low speed.after approx a further 6 seconds the fan should increase to high speed. If the fan circuit operates as described, the fan circuit is satisfactory.
