Default need help getting seat belt to retract again.

got a defect last saturday night as the cop sais my seat belt does not retract back into the housing fast enough ( when you pull it down and let go it does not go back in ). i went to the wreckers tody to get a new one and realised there all the same, i must have tugged on 30-40 belts.

my question is, is it possible to replace drivers seat belt with the passengers or rear one just for the sake of taking it down to vic roads?

    cheers

The prices vary between makes and models. Best to shop around and see if some places will beat others prices.

yea it is a bit harsh... umm find some smaller mechanics around in your town, get a price and see how you go...the main killer mate is labour..... and seeing as you got defected for it.... im pretty sure it needs to be fixed and cleared by a qualified mechanic...i think thats the way it works? some one correct me if im wrong

What I did was remove the belt from the car then pull as much belt off the retractor as possible then wash by hand in warm soapy water followed by a rinse in Softly or one of those fabric softeners. The idea is to remove all the grease and crap from the belt allowing it to be softer and more flexible and hopefully retract fully. Keep water from the retractor.
    This cost nothing.

It worked on my VS but didn't work real good on my old Jaguar -t that was a 1970 model and I figured the retractor spring was tired like the rest of the Jag. I normally do this to my belts every few years - you'd be amazed at the colour of the wash water and you wouldn't want to think about the bacteria living in that belt.

This might be a good topic to be posted in the workshop area. (unless it has been dne already lol)

also take note that the retractor mech has to be position in the way its mounted or it will not pull out again as there is a bearing lock. sumthing to do with roll overs
