    Question What is this for?

Hey guys, today when i pulled out my center console, i noticed some wires & a plug sticking out with nothing attatched to them! just wondering what it could be for? Any help would be great!

And also with my Ciggy Lighter Illumination light it only has room for 1 wire to connect in the socket but at the other end of the wire there is the pulg & it has room for 2 wires but only 1, is it supposed to be like this or what?

Could possibly be for the auto gear shifter light. Its just a part of the wiring loom so if you ever convert to auto, you got the plug to light it up.

That is for rear footwell lights/centre console light. Plugged it into the wiring already on the statesman console i bought, and everything lit up

Hi,If that wire is Brown with white trace, according to gregorys that is the automatic shifter light.Does it look like a small push in bulb will go in the end of it?The centre console and rear footwells connect to an orange with black trace wire.

Just by looking at it, you can see its a plug, not a light socket.

I just had to go have a look myself and im sure its for the auto shift light, by looking into it theres meant to be a wedge type globe in it
Rear footwell lights? Where are they hidden

Weird, mine plugged straight into the loom on the Stato console and the lights worked. And my car was auto from factory aswell (Converted now)

    Maybe it has 2 uses?

Try looking at a wiring diagram before you shoot someone down in flames.

Why? Just a month ago i put a statesman console in my car, had a plug on the console and it fit right in the plug pictured, and it was for the rear footwell lights and centre console light.

As mentioned, my car was a factory auto aswell, so technically there should still be a plug for the trans lights, but THAT plug pictured, was not it.

well you are connecting them to the wrong wires, the wiring diagram from the manual shows centre console and footwell lights connect to orange with black trace wire.and its not a plug ,its a globe socket anyway.

Well they fit, and havn't blown any fuses (and from what you said, wouldn't connect if its a socket....)
The thing pictured is EXACTLY the same position (the break in the factory loom, on the side of that bracket) as my car was, and was the plug for the loom.

All the footwell lights etc run off the interior light wiring, so when you open the doors they light up. That plug however, lights up when you turn your parkers/headlights on.

Just saw his 2nd post, says its a factory manual VR. Why would a factory manual loom have the plug for an auto light?

That part of the loom is universal fit I guess.Theres always extra stuff like this in all cars,Ive seen it a million times.I was only going on the wiring diagram in the gregorys for what Ive said above, and I had to replace the auto shiter light bulb in my car once before and it looked like the same bulb holder as mine,Im not here to argue with anyone ,Im the first to admit when Im wrong about somthing. If a "good"auto sparkie got on here and said (that wiring diagram is wrong ,its like this),then Id be saying ok then.I think that if you have plugged your plug into that, and it made contact inside,it could still power your lights anyway.

Win for me then. I just pulled the ash tray out to see what i could see in there, but that side was covered (and cbf taking the whole console out).

All i saw that wasn't plugged in was a 4 wired plug (Same plugs that plug into the back of the switches under the radio) which is different again (but might be something to do with the auto)

Brown/white is the interior illumination. Comes on with the headlights/parkers. Stick a small wedge bulb in and turn your lights on... it should light.

Or check it with a multimeter or test lamp.
