Default how do you deal with the huge key?

bought VR few weeks ago. this is bloody massive, cant fit this in my pocket and have other keys or other shit to worry about. also the button there isnt working, no idea what its supposed to do

i have a VR exec '93 sedan. is it possible to take this key to a locksmith and pay $x to get the blade put into a new key that isnt the size of a bull's testicles? how do i find out if it has an immobiliser or an RFID or whatever, and if i need to do remote lock etc?

i dont care about remote locking enough to have the key replaced with a new one (if that button even is remote locking and not alarm) but if its for a reasonable price, id really like a key thats a bit smaller

The key head turns the immobilser off when inserted into the ignition, it touches the metal ring around the ignition.

So there's no possible way to make this thing smaller without negatively impacting upon the safety of my car?

you could, but that would be more effort than its worth. that little metal nob next to the blade needs to touch the metal ring around the ignition when you turn the key to deactivate the immobilizer.

well i was implying if you had it so the metal nib is always in contact with the car and not reliant upon the key being there.

is there any way i can get a smaller key, is what im asking. or does everyone have to put up with this massive paperweight

i dont see what the big deal is. millions of owners have no problem with the key. if youre that desperate, get a tune to turn security off, then get a vn/vp key cut. still a waste of money, and makes the car easier to steal.

OP; Maybe try losing the big bulky bottle opener you have with it on your keyring?

Asking something like that on here will guarantee that when you have real problem with the VR (which you will), everybody will remember the dick who thought his key was too big, and we will all point and laugh.....

yeah abba i highly doubt anybody worth asking questions of is gonna care that i had an issue with packing a 1cm thick key into my pockets when ive already got a tonne of other shit to carry around. ill get a key case and lose the bottle-opener but unless you like walking around with deep, open pockets inviting people to pickpocket you, i dont see the harm in asking if im stuck with it as it is. just came from a car that had an ignition key the same size as this ones alarm key. and now i have a car key thats almost as big as my phone.. i got other shit to carry around too

    Seriously...

Take the key off, get a smaller ring, attatch it to the key. Then attatch the smaller ring to the rest of your keys. Yes... It's really that simple.

huh? doesnt change the volume of shit ive gotta carry around in pockets. its not a huge deal, i just hate having to take my wallet out every time to get at my keys

now i know whats in the key its not worth fiddling around getting up a new one, but if it was just a matter of taking the blade and sticking it to something smaller, it would have made my life a little easier. but now i know its more trouble than its worth, whats the big deal

Well the volume of other stuff in your pockets is your problem. You have two options, have a glass of concrete and live with the key in your pocket. Or, leave the key at home, jump on your push bike and ride around everywhere, then you wont need to carry the key.

Seriously, have a glass of concrete mate, if you want to drive the car, live with the size of the key. If every other commodore owner out there can deal with it, I'm sure you can.

this isnt related to keys but never ever chuck your wallet in your back pocket. preferred target for thieves and if ya sit on it long enough youre gonna snap your spine or get a hernia or something

What, that one extra little ring. It allows the key to move around instead of just sticking out relative to the original ring.

didnt realise the oversized key was such an iconic part of being a holden owner. my apologies sir and please accept my sincerest apologies. in time i hope to obtain your forgiveness and have my holden driving privileges reinstated

just a simple question about the key, it was answered, case closed

quit having a whinge mate, its just a key
