I just replaced my front brake pads. VS Commodore stops fine but squeals now. Did NOT machine discks although it went metal to metal. REPCO r selling pads, rotors and fluid packs for $99 front or rear. Should I go to the expense (and trouble) of changing pads again and installing NEW rotors? Will it stop the car any better now the pads have bedded in?
Appreciate some feedback ( I know what the RIGHT answer is but I want to know what the common sense answer is).

mate they stop your car! i would pay for new pads esp cos its the front
I'd at least get the rotors machined, if they've got enough life left in them, and a new set of pads. Repco selling rotors, pads and fluid for $99? Holy crapshit! Can't be too much chop for that price.
At the end of the day, you don't want to cut corners with your brakes. They do come in handy once in a while.![]()
If it went metal to metal you probably have some deep groove in the discs - because of this the pads will take time to wear into the grooves and in the meantime will squeal. Give it about 1000KM of city driving before you start worrying UNLESS the brakes are pulling to one side or need excessive pressure to stop.
if there is enough meat left on the discs id defo get them machined, it dont cost that much. even take them into a local engineering shop and get them to do it. i do mine on the lathe at work during smoko
Hi,I found that when I fitted $30 pads from supercheap, they squealed like mad,I ended up buying bendix brand,(double the price),no squeal at all from them.I had fitted 4 new disks with the cheap pads.Just cheap s#*t pads causing it.
What pads did you fit Dimitri, and how bad are your rotors looking ?
If repco's rotors are DBA or RDA i'd consider buying them , but the pads will certainly be rubbish.
Usually cheap and nasty pads will squeal.
You want fairly expensive ones and they shouldnt do it..
Get the rotors machined too. Thats just stupid to leave them...
measure your disc's if they will take a machine then do so if not replace them and reface the pads and rebed them in again ???
Re face the pads?
Hmm...
I tryed scrubbing my pads on concreate (supposibly a bad idea?) Now they squel crazy as well...
yep bad idea that one , next time try some sandpaper on a flat surface or wrapped around a file
Hmm... What grade sand paper. I think I should do that next time I fiddle with the wheels lol.
p80 works well also clean the backing plate of the pad and apply tile adhesive to it to stop dust build up between the plate and piston ..
I only got the brake pad on concreate idea from a mate that works in a mechanics... I'll try the flat sand paper idea. Haha.
have done it myself in the past but always finish it off with sand paper . have used anything from the old repco red brake pads to bendix ultimates , QFM , firepower , cheap and nasty thru to top of line pads race and street always will get some squeal from time to time.
get vt upgrade package....
