G'day all,
My ss vr has jsut decided to stop mid run. There is no spark. My auto electrician says its the distributor and has recommended that I buy an ignition module as well as they usually die together or around the same time. The price range for both of those accross the state ranges from $450 to $800. Being a female, I often have people trying to rip me off or trick me into more work being done than necessary. Does anyone know if I should follow this advice to replace both at once or could I get away with replacing the distributor with out the module?
Hi :0, there's some guys on ebay that will rebuild the modules with new capacators for $100 change over. So I'd reccomend you go that way. Also it's much more likely the ignition module or coil has died rather that the dizzy but it _will_ be one of the three. If he knows what he's doing then I guess he will know it's the dizzy. But at the price they are you would want to be sure, I would replace the module and coil together as a half dead one can fry the other (coils don't cost so much) but I can't see a point in replacing the dizzy and the module together unless you are unsure which is broken and just want it to go 100%. The dizzys usually take along time to die and will restart once the car cools for months before they totally fail. the modules will stop and that's where the car stays until you get a new one
Thanks mate, I appreciate it.
personally, firstly i would buy a new coil and see if that fixes the problem (i think i paid like $58 for one?). my car did the exact same thing and it was the coil. if you have a friend who knows how to use a spanner then it's easy to replace (well, bit fiddly but that's it). if the car doesn't start, i'd get the rebuilt module off ebay like foamy said. that's even easier to replace, all you need is a screwdriver and a spare 5 minutes. if the car still doesn't start, then it's new dizzy time, which is a much bigger job. but it won't hurt to have a new coil and module anyway so before replacing the dizzy just try those 2 parts![]()
