While playing with the engine yesterday, I was revving the car with the accelorator cable and started hearing this rattling noise on the drivers side of the engine.
Any ideas for that or just dont worry about it?
check idler pulley arm?
Idler pully arm? Where's that? Lol.
I know most about cars but still learning! Lol.
Its the small pulley near the alternator(front) that tensions the belt.It can loose its tension over time. Also the harmonic balancer can rattle.Even if it "looks"ok.Replaced one of these for a neighbour not long ago.A VP V6.Not cheap, around $300.It was making a hell of a noise. All quiet now.You can remove the belt and run the motor ( for no more than two minutes),and listen for the rattle. If its not there, its one of the pulleys or the tensioner. If it is still there Id check out the Harmonic balancer.
It sounded more up the back of the engine... I dunno. I'll have a look tomorrow or something..
I know that a few pulleys have a vibration in them but my GF's uncle said that they still have 20,000 k's in em before I should replace 'em..
Gf's uncle is a real motor head... Very smart guy.
Jeez,It might be something inside the engine. Not good.Let us know what you find out .Good luck with it.cheers.
Sorry for the confusion and shit...
Didnt explain the problem too clearly...
But I'll have a look again tomorrow and report back...
Common for the exhaust manifolds to crack but im not sure if it makes a "rattling sound" lol hard to know when we cant hear.
Maybe if you could get a video up might help.
I'll try and get one soon ok VT s.. Just gotta find a camera that can or use my phone. XD
