hey boys i have a 97 vs ute with 19's on it and the cops pulled me up and are saying that i cant have them on my ute,is this true?id anyone knows the laws or whateva let me know..cheers
check the load rating on your rims and the factory fitted size rims anything above a plus 2 fittment is considered unroadworthy , Did you get a defect notice for these rims as fitted ???
nah he didnt give me a notice man but he said if he see's my car round with them on he will put it off the road with a couple fines, what a joke cause i dnt see how the 19"scan make the car anymore dangerous then 15's whats up with that?
The laws are different everywhere you go. What state are you in? Or even better, ring up your local traffic authority and ask them. You will get 5 different answers here

If the rims dont have the correct load rating for the vehicle its illegal to fit them up or to sell them . sedans and utes have different requirements for load ratings . Putting 19's on early commodores VB-VL is not roadworthy as they were complainced with 15's so a 19 is a plus 4 fittment so check carefully as to what size and what load rating you have and also the load rating of the tyres fit to your ute .
ring any government department and ask the same question and get 10 different answers to your question , Just does my head in every time dealing with vic roads . Never ask a TMU officer for the correct answer either they just dont know enough and are wrong more often than right .

Thats why rims have load ratings and tyres too ask any tyre fitter or any rep like my mate colin from speedy wheels , if you wanna keep it legal and roadworthy and not get hassled by the coppers and not have insurance hassle . If your car was to be involved in accident and its found to have incorrect wheels and tyres your insurance company can deny your claim and void your policy leaving you to foot the bill . Thats why we have ADR's and laws against illegal mods ????
So you've given this dude information about Victoria's rules, before even finding out where he lives? Good one.

do HQs have the same stud pattern and offset? (i honestly don't know)
some states have 2 inch rules, some don't... how can you find the load rating of a rim anyway? is it printed on the rim somewhere? i've never seen it before but maybe i'm not looking hard enough.
In Victoria 19's on a VS will be legal (if the rim and tyre itself is legit), you can thank the HSV cars for that. Doesn't mean a cop will believe you but you wont loose in court![]()
considering you've given us your version of victorian rules strgas, here are the actual rules taken directly from vicroads:
can you please show me where it talks about the plus 2 fitment?
HQ's dont have the same stud pattern
Levy, 25mm wider on the rim, over the largest option for that model/series by the manufacturer. Holden are the manufacturer for all HSV models and there are VS''s with at least 17's so it's fine. Oops it actualy doesn't mention diameter of the rim itself so it doesn't matter, but you wont fit more than 19s within the other 15mm rule anyway
The plus 2 fitment is not covered by vic roads but by insurance company's . this is one trick they use to deny some policy's for those wishing to gain cover for modified vehicles by fitting larger then standard wheels .
As for HQ wheels they will fit and bolt up but have a larger centre bore so the load is then supported by the studs alone and not the hub of the disc's ..
The HQ pattern is imperial everything is different to the metric Commodore pattern, just happens to be close enough to get a rim on, but it's all wrong not just the centre. The actual stud holes pull side load on the studs and snap them off.

Here's the federal rim and tyre guidlines that are _supposed_ the be the new national standard
good to see someone has the answer to my trick question about HQ wheels and the right one

that's a bunch of snake oil. what leg could an insurance company possibly have to stand on if they won't cover you for a legal modification (according to the vicroads rules i just posted)? the only leg would be if the insurance policy clearly stated that you could not fit wheels more than 2 sizes bigger. my insurance policy does not state this, therefore your statement is incorrect.
insurance companies may try to wriggle their way out of paying claims, but they can't just refuse to cover you if they don't explicitly state their terms and conditions and you didn't break the law. they're not criminals...
Ok trying getting a roadworthy and insurance on say a vh vk with 19's or 20's on it .
that doesn't answer my question at all. if you know all of these rules so well then you should be able to point me towards some documentation that proves it.
surely there are other ways to prove your point than telling me to go buy a vk, put 19s on it, and get insurance.
