hi guys and girls. I have a vs ecotec v6 but have noticed a big powerloss at full throttle and high rpm which leads me to beleive that the fuel pump could be on the way out. I was mainly wondering what sort of current draw would a good vs fuel pump produce? And how do i remove the ecotec fuel lines from the firewall for flow/ pressure testing? Thanks very much guys
I dont think current draw will help you assertain wether its u/s. Its somthin not seen alot, but if it is it, it would be the 3rd case i have heard of where a pump loses its ability to deliver under high rpm. But do the fuel filter first before pulling the pump.
thanks for the suggestion,
I replaced fuel filter on saturday.
This is an intermittent issue which is becoming very frustrating.
I havent had a chance to test the fuel pump yet but will when i gain access to
a fuel pressure gauge.
My next suggestion for this major powerloss would be a blocked exhaust so will hook the vacuum gauge up next time i go for a drive.
on the end of the fuel rail, there is the pressure regulator. take the hose of that and connect a t-peice fitting and on teh third leg connect the pressure gauge.
also, if the filter is blocked, the lines may also be blocked so try blowing compressed air back through them... may help.
Yes a busted up Cat converter may cause a blockage/restriction in the exhaust, definatly worth alook if you can get the bolts undone.
Also to elaborate on why current draw is no too much help, is because the fuel pump delivers the same amount of fuel all the time and the excess just gets bled back to the tank in the return line. So you will not see any difference in the current draw as it never really changes.
I'd also check the air filter...if it's dirty/blocked the engine will simply run out of breath.
lol,
well I will get a k & n air filter on thursday just to be sure.
didn't get a chance to check for a blocked exhaust but now im thinking maybe could be that.
because 1/4 throttle response is still really good but struggles past 3/4000rpm at wot.
Only sometimes though which is confusing.
