VS V6 Ecotec motor 98 Ute 5 speed
The last few times, on the first start up of the day,
it winds over, starts, and idles very, very rough, almost stalling,
For about 10 seconds, then goes to a smooth idle. Runs and drives fine after that.
Car has about 220, 000 Km on clock, serviced regularly, new fuel filter, good plugs & leads, clean air filter, ect, ect.
I don't know if the injectors have ever been looked at or not, but it seems to be starving for fuel on that first start up of the day.
So i gave the engine a good thrashing, and also noticed a slight drop in power, between 4 and 5 Thousand RPM?
Anyone know what's with the rough start up?
Mate Ive got the same sort of problem,Mine starts fine except for when its been sitting for more than 24 hours. It will start and miss on 1 or 2 cylinders and run rough for a few seconds, then it comes good.Only does it when its been sitting though.Ive posted here before on the problem and did no good. And have not been able to work out what causes it.Ive replaced everything and it still does it.Other than that it runs fine.

I will be keeping an eye on this thread!! My mum has a vp commodore and is doin the same thing!
Check error codes. By the sounds of things it could be a coolant temp sensor issue.
No error codes, for me anyway. Its more annoying for me than a problem. After it has been started for the day, it will start perfect for the rest of the day.Just does it when its been sitting 24 hours or more. It has got me totally stuffed.Going from winter to summer has made no difference to it either, which I thought it could have been the cold weather before, but no change.I just wanna know whats doing it.Im gonna replace the coolant temp sensor like Chirpstr mentions, its about the only thing I havent replaced on the car.I will post here what I find out.

My VS V6 Ecotech is still starting rough, and has power loss at high revs. (V6 Manual)
How can i check for Error Codes?
Can i take it somewhere to be done, other than Holden Dealer?
OR
Can i buy the software or program for my laptop?
Thanks.

Hi, being an oldie I do not know my way around these pages. My problem is, the car will idle perfectly 50% of the time, the other 50% it idles very rough but, does not stall, it is not a miss. Do you have any suggestions please. 1996 v6 model.
Have you changed the coils. Had a similar experience with the lack of power. Was the coil packs. Changed them, leads and new plugs and runs like a dream...
That seems to have fixed the problem.
I cleaned the throttle body as well.
Got some new 9mm Eagle leads, and another coil pack. "Runs like a dream"
When i took the old leads off ( Champion 8mm ), one of the rubber boots that goes on to the spark plug, was perished and split, exposing the steel connector, ( mabey causing some spark to jump ?) Looks like them leads been on there a long time.

Could be a slight fuel pressure loss and or dirty fuel injectors.
EDIT: never mind, been sorted.
