The engine in my VR had siezed so was thinking of replacing it with an ecotec engine. If i do this would i require an engineering certificate or mod plate? I am in SA.

Just fill in a change of engine form and they may call you in to have a look to make sure stock computer, manifold, etc. is in place. I asked about a Super 6 conversion into mine a while ago and they said it would be no problem just fill out and send in a change of engine form and providing all pollution gear, ecu and other stuff was installed correctly (ie. stock) it would be no worries. More than likely they won't call you in but it may happen, just a random thing they do apparently.

if you install everything of the vs you wont have any issues
Just buy a VS?
Well, i would not even consider upgrading to an ecotec engine if my VR was running. The engine siezed so it needs replacing and it is not much more work fitting a ecotec engine rather than replacing the old engine. Also i know of a recently fully reconditioned ecotec engine, cheap.

Hey mate, sorry for this but im trying the same conversion. as my engine has done the same thing. i was just wondering if you had any issues with your exhaust. does the vr exhaust fit straight to the vs engine or do i need a whole new exhaust system please let me know thanks mate.
You will need a new exhaust, VR and VS are completely different.
do you know this for fact or are you just going on the fact that the engine is different.. please let me know
you should be able to use the exhaust from cat back
