punching out the cat!

hey guys, just wondering if it would create any major problems with the running or performance of the motor to punch the middle of the catilytic converter out, it sounds stupid to do so but im on a budget and its the cheapest way i can think of making my car louder it is an injected 5 litre with a cam and 2.5 inch exhaust from the cat back,, any help is appreciated

It wont make no difference unless its blocked,and if thats the case just buy a new one.I've sat back and watched people do this before and it makes no difference really to how it goes or sounds.

Would it not make sense to run a 3" exhaust on a v8, not 2.5"? That'd be louder, and shouldn't drone.

If you go ahead with it, make sure you run a pipe through the cat, otherwise all you are doing is creating a reservoir for air to accumulate, causing lots of kw killing turbulence....
If you only empty the cats it will sound tinny, you will be very dissapointed!!

Yes it is completely illegal, and the boys in blue are now carrying infra red temp measuring gun's, so if you cat's arn't anywhere near 300 degrees, you will be in the shit!! Empty cats don't burn up all the nasty's like intact ones......

Just buy some good quality high flow jobs, theres plenty on ebay :-)
