Doesnt nessesarily mean they've all been flogged to death. They get serviced regularly.Where Im from they just cruise about ,never any chases or anything like that here,Its like they are scared to drive em.Just putt - putt about the place.

No performance mods if thats what you're getting at.

Toughened sump for when they mount the kerbs and smash into them.
    Speedo in 2kph increments.
Surveillance mode where they can turn all interior lights off or something.
    The hall of fame:

As Brett jjj says, it don't mean they are all thrashed. Mine was in 'as new' condition when I bought it. It will have as a minimum the lower FE2 suspension and an 'always on' light on the speedo needle for James Bond nightime stuff. Other bits may have been added as options. Only a small proportion of BT1's were sold to the state police - the rest went to various government depts ranging from customs to fire services. A lot were leased from Asset Services in Canberra as this was the cheapest way for a govt dept to obtain vehicles. (don't even mention the "cop chip")

The only difference with the engine management is it uses shielded wiring or ECU on the BT1 because either the police radios interfere with the engine management or the engine management interferes with the police radios, its one or the other. Was reading about it somewhere.Theres no difference in performance, though a lot of people won't believe it,and swear there is.

My BT1 5.0 (delivered to the Commissioner of Police in Dec 1995) has FE2, LSD, dual airbags, SS interior, the sump guard, "stealth" speedo light, 2km increments on the speedo and a bunch of mysterious wires under the front carpet (my VK ex pursuit also had these)...residual "scmods" stuff I suppose...oh and it does not have a "cop chip" !!!

oh yeah i read somewhere the ecu was remapped with the SS program, but im guessing its a 5ltr holden they will all be mapped the same unless its a different model or a HSV? but yeah mine has all of that except for the 2km increments on the speedo.. IRS, LSD, SRS driver and passenger airbag, speedo light, upgraded interior lighting, a big whole drilled inbetween the two windows (guessing this is for sirens?) sump gaurds.. and it was first licensed to "POLICE COMMISIONER WEST PERTH" but yeah its in awesome condition and drives shitloads better and faster than the VR SS i test drove before i bought mine, whats with that? the VR even had way less km on the clock.. And was in as new condition all round

The difference in performance you feel in an ex chaser is because of the better serviceing!
I have heard from some of my mates that are holden mechanics, that the cars usually have less carbon deposit. Probably because they get driven hard every now and then without being completly flogged(ie. burnouts, power slides, etc.) True or false... I don't know.
