Hi there, im new on here and need help already, i have to drive from adelaide back to my home town tomorrow ballina and noticed tonight .. My vr v6 stateman had trouble accelerating and i also notice the economy reading was bad something like 35 litres per 100 km when i was only doing 50kays when it normally says about 7 km .. Anyway so i pulled over cause it kinda felt like my handbrake was stuck on so i pumped the brakes and it sounded like air coming out near my feet which i havent heard before but after pumping it about 8 times i took off up the street slowly and noticed the problem was gone ... I since checked the brake fluid it seems fine .. Can anyone shed light on this ? Hope im still ok for my 200km drive in the morning.
Maybe something to do with the vacuum operated power brakes....maybe the one way valve sticking and allowing air to be sucked into the intake manifold which would give a sucking noise and make your economy really bad plus gutless. Or a fault in the master cylinder where the brakes have stayed on due to a cocked seal and this would give the bad economy readings due brakes dragging..
I'd have a close look at the booster - check the vacuum hose to it....look under the booster for leaking fluid.
For safetys sake I'd also call into a brake specialist and ask them.
Isn't it more than 200km from Adelaide to Ballina???
Yes its 2000 kms .. You think get it looked at ? It does have a sticky tappet but normally the noise goes away after 10 minutes of driving is that what your referring to ? Thanks btw for your help ...
Yes i made a mistake on my opening thread the trip is 2000 km not 200 ...
